Announcement First Call for Papers EPIA-2001 10th Portuguese Conference on Artificial Intelligence, EPIA-01 17-19 December 2001 Porto, Portugal The 10th Portuguese Conference on Artificial on Artificial Intelligence, EPIA'01, will continue with certain tradition of previous conferences in the series and will be organized under the auspices of the Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence (APPIA). It will maintain its international character and continue to provide a forum for presenting and discussing research on different aspects of Artificial Intelligence. To promote motivated discussions among participants, the coming conference will strengthen the role of thematic workshops. These will not be just satellite events, but rather form an integral part of the conference. Certain sessions integrated within the workshops (e.g. presentations of invited speakers etc.) will, at the same time, form part of the main conference. This has the advantage that the work is presented to motivated audience. Workshop papers of high quality (excluding late breaking submissions), will be selected for publication in the main volume of conference proceedings, to be published by Springer-Verlag. Interdisciplinary discussions and interchange of ideas between different sub-areas will also be promoted. Special opportunities will be created for young researchers to be able to present their work. This will be done by creating a possibility of submitting late breaking papers for the main conference or to workshops. The EPIA'01 will be held in Porto, permitting to celebrate its 10th edition in the town where this series of conferences and workshops started about 15 years ago.
