| [ML] Summer internship at NASA Ames
The Automated Software Engineering Group at the NASA Ames Research Center is seeking applications for
Student Internships
during the summer of 2001. The group is situated in the heart of Silicon Valley and maintains strong ties to the academic community (Stanford, Berkeley, CMU) as well as to other research groups within and outside NASA. For more information on the ASE group see http://ase.arc.nasa.gov/.
We are performing research in cutting-edge projects on software verification and program synthesis, i.e., automatic generation of code from high-level specifications. Applicants are invited to actively participate in research on the
Automatic Synthesis of Data Analysis Programs
from statistical models. We are developing the AutoBayes system which uses Bayesian networks to represent the specification and can generate C and C++ code from such models. The system can for example generate code for a variety of mixture problems using the EM algorithm. We plan to extend the system by adding more learning algorithms.
Successful applicants should thus have a solid knowledge in sta- tistics and machine learning algorithms, preferably for classi- fication and time-series analysis.
NASA Ames offers different student internship programs. American citizens and permanent residents are eligible for the RIACS SSRP program which offers up to two stays of 10 weeks each during the summer and a competitive student continuation award. Students who are eligible for SSRP should apply directly for the program no later than Febrauary 15; for further details on the program and the application see
http://www.riacs.edu/SSRP2001.html
Foreign students should contact
Bernd Fischer ([email protected]) Johann Schumann ([email protected])
for more information.
