We are looking for exceptionally highly qualified Ph.D. and M.S. students with areas of expertise in Operations Research and Intelligent Systems. A GRE score higher than 1,300 (for the verbal and quantitative parts together) and a GPA higher than 3.50 (out of 4.00) are required.
It is strongly expected that these candidates will be highly motivated and strongly dedicated towards the development of a research career. These students will be engaged in research in the areas of data mining and knowledge discovery, inductive inference, machine learning, and discrete optimization with applications in engineering and science problems. They will become part of a larger inter-disciplinary group of students and researchers with similar interests and expertise at LSU. The new students will be working in an exclusive Intelligent Data Analysis lab within the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering at LSU (http://www.imse.lsu.edu) and they will have their own office spaces with networked Pentium PCs with the appropriate software, and other peripherals (laser printers, scanners, mass storage media, etc.). Our lab has a super fast fiber-optic connection to LSU's IBM 3090 mainframe and the Web. Research activities in our lab are/have been funded by the U.S. Navy (ONR), U.S. Dept. of Energy, the National Research Council (the COBASE and CAST programs), NASA, the State of Louisiana and the private sector.
