CALL FOR PAPERS SSDBM 2000: Twelfth International Conference on SCIENTIFIC AND STATISTICAL DATABASE MANAGEMENT July 26-28, 2000 Berlin, Germany http://www.wiwiss.fu-berlin.de/~ssdbm The 12th International Conference on Scientific and Statistical Database Management (SSDBM 2000) will take place in Berlin, Germany on July 26-28, 2000. Every year, this international conference brings together database researchers and practitioners, as well as domain scientists from numerous scientific disciplines. SDBM 2000 provides a forum for original research contributions, as well as presentations and evaluations of prototype and real-world systems. Featuring talks, panel discussions, tutorials and system demonstrations, the conference will continue the tradition of past SSDBM meetings and provide a stimulating environment to encourage discussion and the exchange of ideas. IMPORTANT DATES January 15, 2000 Deadline for submission of abstracts January 22, 2000 Deadline for submission of papers and proposals April 15, 2000 Notification of acceptance/rejection May 10, 2000 Deadline for submission of camera-ready copies SUBMISSION OF PAPERS SSDBM 2000 invites the submission of papers that describe the most recent and important advances in Scientific and Statistical Database Systems. Topics of interest include: System Architectures, Modeling and Semantics, Process Models, Query Languages and User Interfaces, Data Visualization, Metadata Management, Physical Organization, Data Compression, Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, Uncertainty Management, Data Integration, Multimedia Data, Scientific/Statistical Data Warehouses, OLAP, Spatiotemporal Data, Experiment Data Management. Of particular interest are results that provide practical support for specific scientific and economic disciplines, including Biology, Biostatistics, Census DBs, Chemistry, Decision Support, Earth and Space Sciences, Environmental and Climate Sciences, Finance, Geography, Geology, Medicine, Physics, Risk Management, and the Social Sciences. Theoretical contributions should include a solid motivation why the specific results are important to domain scientists and how they are going to influence the development of scientific or statistical database systems. Systems papers may describe prototypes or real-life systems that are used by domain scientists. They may also focus on special techniques that are likely to increase the performance or functionality of scientific and statistical database systems. We also welcome well-founded "vision papers" that talk about problems with the technology currently available, or that identify important industrial trends likely to affect future research in the area. Papers have to be formatted in MS Word or Postscript. They should be no longer than 8000 words. Papers are to be submitted electronically no later than January 22, 1999. Detailed instructions for electronic submissions are available at the conference website: http://www.wiwiss.fu-berlin.de/~ssdbm SUBMISSION OF PROPOSALS FOR PANELS, TUTORIALS, AND SYSTEM DEMONSTRATIONS In addition, SSDBM 2000 invites proposals for panels, tutorials, and system demonstrations. Panel proposals should include a list of tentative panelists. Demo proposals should clearly state the hardware and software required at the conference site. Proposals should be no longer than two pages. They should be sent no later than January 22, 1999 by e-mail to the Program Chair, guenther@wiwi.hu-berlin.de.
