The SBIA symposia, as they were initially named, are organized by the interest group in Artificial Intelligence of the Brazilian Computer Society since 1984. In order to promote research in Artificial Intelligence and scientific interchange among Brazilian AI researchers and practitioners, and their counterparts worldwide, it is organized as an international forum since 1995. The language of the conference is English, and the papers will be reviewed by an international program committee. TOPICS OF INTEREST ------------------ Submissions are invited on substantial, original, and previously unpublished research in all aspects of AI, including, but not limited to: * AI architectures * AI applications * Art, music, entertainment and multimedia applications * Automated reasoning * Cognitive modeling * Connectionist and PDP models * Distributed AI, autonomous agents, multi-agents systems and real-time issues * Intelligent manufacturing systems * Intelligent teaching systems * Knowledge engineering and principles of AI applications * Knowledge representation * Learning, knowledge acquisition and case-based reasoning * Logic programming * Natural language * Planning and reasoning about action * Qualitative reasoning and naive physics * Reasoning under uncertainty, including fuzzy logic and fuzzy control * Robotic and artificial life systems * Vision PROVISIONAL PROGRAM COMMITTEE ------------------------------- Flavio Oliveira (II-PUCRS) ** Antonio Carlos da Rocha Costa (II-PUCRS) * Luis Otavio Alvares (II-UFRGS) Dibio Borges (UFG-Goiania) Celso Kaestner (CEFET-PR) Tarcisio Pequeno (LIA-UFC) Edson de Carvalho Filho (DI-UFPE) Ariadne Carvalho (Unicamp) Maria Carolina Monard (USP-Sao Carlos) Guilherme Bittencourt (LCMI-UFSC) Sandra Sandri (INPE) Wagner Silva (UnB) Edilson Ferneda (UFPB) Helder Coelho (UL-Lisboa) Yves Demazeau (Inst. Please, note that at least one author should attend the conference for presentation of the accepted paper. BRAZILIAN WORKSHOP OF AI DISSERTATIONS AND THESES --------------------------------------------------- SBIA'98 is organizing a workshop for presentation of ongoing works that have preliminary results, and have students as their first authors. The purpose of this session is to give opportunity for students and young researchers to receive acknowledgement and feedback from the audience to their work. The papers will not be published in the proceedings of the main conference, however they will be available in hard copy form at the conference site. Submissions for the Student Session may be in English, Portuguese, or Spanish. They will be reviewed by members of the program committee to certify for clarity of ideas and topics of interest to the audience. FORMAT FOR SUBMISSION TO THE WORKSHOP -------------------------------------------- Authors for the Student Session should submit two (2) copies of their papers in hard copy form, including a title page with title, names and complete addresses of the authors, and an abstract of less than 200 words; and the paper body itself.
