International Workshop on Machine Learning and Data Mining in Pattern Recognition Institute of Computer Vision and Applied Computer Sciences Leipzig /Germany September 16 - 18, 1999 Co-chairs Petra Perner and Maria Petrou Program Committee Adnan Amin - Sholom Weiss University of New South Wales / Australia Bir Bhanu - University of California, Riverside / USA Terri Caelli - Ohio State University / USA Janice Glasgow - Queen's University / USA Irwin King - Chinese University / Hong Kong Erkki Oja - Helsinki University of Technology / Finland Petra Perner - IBaI / Germany Maria Petrou - University of Surrey / United Kingdom Sholom Weiss - IBM Yorktown Heights / USA The aim of the workshop The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers from all over the world dealing with machine learning for image processing, image interpretation and computer vision in order to discuss the recent status of the research and direct further developments in machine learning for image related topics. It is the first workshop of a series of workshops dealing with this specific topic. The first workshop will give an overview to the on-going activities in this field and it will offer a platform to discuss particular problems concerned with learning in image related fields. Paper submissions should be related but not limited to any of the following topics: * inductive learning including decision tree and rule induction learning * conceptional learning * case-based learning * statistical learning * neural net based learning and * organizational learning * probabilistic information retrieval related to image processing, image analysis, image interpretation, pattern recognition and computer vision. Applications can be medical applications, industrial applications, biological applications but are not limited to these topics. top Researchers from the machine learning community are invited to present new topics in learning, which might be interesting to our research field. Participants should submit three copies of their contribution to the workshop secretary: Institute of Computer Vision and Applied Computer Sciences "MLPR" Arno-Nitzsche-Straße 45 04277 Leipzig Germany . In addition, participants should submit an electronic version of the manuscript to ibaimldm@aol.com. The paper should have no more than 15 pages (double-spaced) and present original work of the authors. Papers will be reviewed by the program committee. It is under consideration to publish workshop papers in Springer Verlag Lecture Notes in Computer Sciences and a extended version of selected papers will be published in a special issue of the Pattern Recognition Letters after the workshop. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- © 1999 IBaI, Institut für Bildverarbeitung und angewandte Informatik e.V.
