Canberra, Australia, 27-Nov-2000 to 8-Dec-2000. http://www.cs.adfa.edu.au/~abbass/SC/ In collaboration with ====================== School of Computer Science, University College, UNSW AND Data Mining Group,CSIRO, Canberra The School of Computer Science (http://www.cs.adfa.edu.au/), University College, University of New South Wales, at the Australian Defence Force Academy Campus, is pleased to announce the Inaugural IT Summer School with Data Mining and Heuristics (DMS200) as the theme for the year 2000. The aim of the summer school is to expose students and interested IT professionals to recent advances and research topics in IT. The summer school then can become a vehicle for students to determine research foci for their future research initiative - through discussions with IT academics - and provide an avenue for IT professionals to refresh and update their knowledge of current IT issues. This year, the main topic has been decided to be in Data Mining (DM), an area of high demand in the market nowadays and one of the School of Computer Science's research strength areas. The summer school will focus on machine learning, statistics, optimisation, and heuristics techniques for DM. In addition, the overall umbrella of DM, Knowledge Discovery in Databases, will be covered as well. Topics to be covered ==================== Details of the programme can be found at http://www.cs.adfa.edu.au/~abbass/SC/. · Introduction to data mining (1 hour introduction) · Decision support systems (4 hours) · Optimisation Theory for data mining (9 hours) · Advanced Databases (2 hours) · Heuristics (5 hours) · Data mining techniques (14 hours) · Knowledge Discovery in Databases (4 hours) · Web and Text Mining (4 hours) · Seminars (4 hours) Who should attend? ================== Group 1: Undergraduates at the end of their 3rd year who are intending to pursue research or work with data mining or related fields.
