C A L L F O R P A P E R S ============================= The 2002 International Conference on Machine Learning and Applications (ICMLA'02) Monte Carlo Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA June 24-27, 2002 Official web site : http://www.cs.csubak.edu/~icmla The 2002 International Conference on Machine Learning and Applications will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, June 24-27, 2002. The aim of the conference is to bring researchers working in the areas of machine learning and applications together. The conference will cover both theoretical and experimental research results. Submission of papers describing machine learning applications in fields like medicine, biology, and industry is strongly encouraged. The ICMLA'02 will be held simultaneously (same location and dates) with the International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Processing Techniques and Applications (PDPTA), The International Conference on Imaging Science, Systems, and Technology (CISST), and other conferences and workshops (a link to ICMLA'02 web site will soon be available at: http://www.ashland.edu/~iajwa/conferences). You are invited to submit a paper (max 7 pages) and/or a proposal to organize a technical session (submission instructions below). All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceeding. THE NAMES OF TECHNICAL SESSION ORGANIZERS/CHAIRS WILL APPEAR AS ASSOCIATE EDITORS ON THE COVER OF THE CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS. SCOPE of the ICMLA'02 International Conference: - multistrategy learning - statistical learning - neural network learning - bayesian network - case-based reasoning - evolutionary computation - reinforcement learning - machine learning of natural language - grammatical inference - knowledge acquisition and learning - knowledge discovery in databases - knowledge intensive learning - knowledge management and learning - information retrieval and learning - theories and models for plausible reasoning - cooperative learning - planning and learning - multi-agent learning - web navigation and mining - inductive logic programming - computational learning theory - cognitive-modeling - hybrid algorithms Contributions describing applications of machine learning techniques to real-world problems, interdisciplinary research involving machine learning, experimental and/or theoretical studies yielding new insights into the design of ML systems, and papers describing development of new analytical frameworks that advance practical learning methods are especially encouraged. IMPORTANT DATES: January 14, 2002 (Monday): papers (max 7 pages) due April 01, 2002 (Monday): notification of acceptance April 22, 2002 (Monday): camera-ready papers & Pre-registration June 24-27, 2002: ICMLA'02 International Conference Proposals to organize technical sessions should be submitted as soon as possible. All accepted papers must be presented at the conference. SUBMISSION OF PAPERS: Authors will need to submit three copies of their papers; max 7 pages; single-spaced; standard font size (11 or 12) to M. A. Wani (see the address below). E-mail submissions are also acceptable. Papers must not have been previously published. The paper that is submitted to multiple conferences should clearly state this information. The first page of the paper should include: - title of the paper, names, email addresses, the affiliations - the postal address, telephone number, and fax number for the first or corresponding author only - abstract of maximum of 150 words - a list of max 5 keywords PROPOSAL FOR ORGANIZING TECHNICAL SESSIONS: Each technical session will have at least six paper presentations. The session chairs will be responsible for soliciting the papers, reviewing, and making final decisions, in consultation with conference co-chairs. The names of session chairs will appear as Associate Editors in the proceedings. Proposals to organize technical sessions should include the following information: name and address (including E-mail) of the proposer, title of a session, a 100-word description, and a short description on how the session will be advertised (in most cases, session proposers will solicit papers). Mail your proposal to M. A. Wani (address is given below); E-mail submissions are preferred. EVALUATION PROCESS: Papers will be evaluated for originality, significance, and clarity. Each paper will be evaluated by two referees. PUBLICATION: The conference proceedings will be published by CSREA Press (ISBN), as a hardcopy. In addition, a CD version will also be available. The proceedings will be available at the conference. After the conference some papers will be considered for journal publication. ORGANIZERS/SPONSORS: A number of faculty members and their staff in cooperation with the Monte Carlo Resort (Conference Division, Las Vegas) will be organizing the conference. The conference will be sponsored by World Academy of Sciences and co-sponsored by Computer Science Research, Education, & Applications Press (CSREA: USA Federal EIN # 58-2171953) along with other research centers (to be announced at a later time). (Previous conferences' sponsors included: CSREA, the National Supercomputing Center for Energy and the Environment - DOE, The International Association for Mathematics and Computers in Simulation, The International Technology Institute (ITI), The Java High Performance Computing research group, World Scientific and Engineering Society, Sundance Digitial Signal Processing Inc., the Computer Vision Research and Applications Tech., ...) LOCATION OF THE ICMLA'02 CONFERENCE: The conference will be held in the Monte Carlo Resort hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The Monte Carlo Resort is a mega hotel with excellent conference facilities and over 3,000 rooms. The hotel is only a few minutes from the Las Vegas airport with 24-hour shuttle service to and from the airport. This hotel has many vacation and recreational attractions, including: waterfalls, casino, spa, pools & kiddie pools, sunning decks, Easy River water ride, wave pool with cascades, lighted tennis courts, healthspa (with workout equipment, whirlpool, sauna, ...), arcade virtual reality game rooms, nightly shows, snack bars, a number of restaurants, shopping area, bars, ... Many of these attractions are open 24 hours a day and most are suitable for families and children. The negotiated hotel's room rate for conference attendees is very reasonable (79USD + tax) per night (no extra charge for double occupancy) for the duration of the conference. The hotel is within walking distance from most Las Vegas attractions (major shopping areas, recreational destinations, fine dining and night clubs, free street shows, ...). Las Vegas is only a few hours away from cities like Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, and the Grand Canyon. EXHIBITION: An exhibition is planned for the duration of the conference. We have reserved 20+ exhibit spaces. Interested parties should contact H. R. Arabnia (address is given below). All exhibitors will be considered to be the co-sponsors of the conference. MEMBERS OF THE PROGRAM & ORGANIZING COMMITTEES: The Program Committee is currently being formed. Those interested in joining the Program Committee should email the following information to M. A. Wani (see address below): name, affiliation and position, complete mailing address, email address, tel/fax numbers, a short biography together with research interests. OTHER INFORMATION: It is planned to add other related conferences, symposiums, and workshops to be held simultaneously (same location and dates) creating an international multiconference in computer science. Each conference will have it's own proceedings and technical/research sessions. Contact H. R. Arabnia (hra@cs.uga.edu) if you are interested in organizing a conference, symposium, or a workshop.
