In addition, there will be a small number of half-day workshops on specific topics (see seperate call for workshops). Submission Areas ---------------- Paper submissions are invited on topics including but not restricted to: - CBR design issues, e.g., retrieval, similarity assessment, adaptation, and indexing - Case representation and case base maintenance - Knowledge acquisition, modeling, and management for CBR - Methodologies for developing CBR applications - System architectures and integration of CBR with other methods - Evaluation of CBR systems and comparisons to other approaches - Case-based and instance-based learning, index learning, and integration with other learning methods - Applications of CBR in customer support, design, education, electronic commerce, knowledge management, manufacturing, medicine, quality management, etc. - CBR-related areas, e.g., corporate memories, decision support, intelligent retrieval, networked information discovery and retrieval, and reuse - Cognitive models based on CBR - Analogical reasoning Papers may be accepted for presentation as talks, as part of a panel, or as posters. All accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings published by Springer Verlag. Review Criteria --------------- Submissions must be identified as either research or application papers and will be reviewed using criteria appropriate to their category. Important Dates for Workshops ----------------------------- February 5, 1999 Workshop Proposal submission deadline February 19, 1999 Workshop Notification of acceptance March 5, 1999 Deadline for calls for workshop participation April 30, 1999 Suggested submission deadline for workshop papers May 28, 1999 Deadline for notice of acceptance June 22, 1999 Deadline for final camera-ready copies of workshop papers July 28, 1999 ICCBR-99 Workshops (parallel) Requirements for Submission --------------------------- Proposals for workshops should contain the following information: - A brief technical description of the workshop, specifying the workshop goals and the technical issues that will be its focus. - A brief discussion of why and to whom the workshop is of interest. - A proposed workshop format and preliminary agenda for organizing the workshop. Note that the time available for workshops is limited to four hours. - The names, postal addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of the workshop organizing committee. - The name of the primary contact for the organizing committee; this person must have an e-mail address. Proposers are encouraged to avoid the style of a "mini-conference", but to instead promote an atmosphere conducive to the informal exchange of ideas. Proposers should consider sending their draft proposals to potential participants for comments before submission. Organizational Information -------------------------- All proposals should be submitted by electronic mail to sschmitt@iccbr.org, in plain ASCII text. Each workshop organizing committee will be fully responsible for the content and the format of the workshop. The organizers must: - Produce a call for participation in the workshop. It should also make clear the process by which the organizing committee will select the papers and presentations. It should also note that all workshop participants must register for the conference. Note that the workshops must be open to all registered participants of ICCBR-99. - Select presentations and papers, if any. - Edit workshop notes, if any. ICCBR will provide: - A meeting place and logistical support for the workshop. - Printing of the workshop notes as Technical Reports of the Centre for Learning Systems and Applications (LSA) of the University of Kaiserslautern. Any special audio-visual requirements and special room requirements must be arranged with ICCBR by July 1, 1999. ICCBR reserves the right to cancel any workshop if deadlines are missed or if too few attendees register for the workshop to support the costs of running the workshop. To cover costs, it will be necessary to charge workshop participants a small workshop fee in addition to the normal ICCBR-99 conference registration fee.
