*************** CALL FOR PAPERS *************** COOP’2000 FOURTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE DESIGN OF COOPERATIVE SYSTEMS Sophia Antipolis, France May 23-26, 2000 http://www-sop.inria.fr/acacia/Coop/Coop2000 The main goal of the COOP conferences is to contribute to the solution of problems related to the design of cooperative systems, and to the integration of these systems in organizational settings. The conferences are aimed at helping to improve : - the comprehension of human-human and human-machine cooperative work processes; - the development of models of cooperation and cooperative work from different perspectives; - the development of appropriate design methodologies and of new functionalities for cooperative systems. The main assumption behind the COOP conferences is that cooperative systems design requires a deep understanding of the cooperative work of dyads, groups and organizations, involving both artefacts and social conventions. We encourage submissions from researchers and practitioners inacademia, industry, consulting and government, and from all disciplines contributing to the field of cooperative systems design, including (but not limited to) Psychology, Ergonomics, Linguistics, Computer Sciences (Information Systems, Decision-Making Support, Knowledge Engineering, User Interfaces, Distributed Artificial Intelligence), Sociology, Organizational and Management Sciences. The previous COOP conferences (1995, 1996, 1998) solicited both theoretical, and empirical contributions on such topics as analyses of complex work situations, elaboration of conceptual frameworks for understanding cooperative work, guidelines for modelling collective activities, methodological elements for cooperative system design, and innovative technological solutions. COOP’2000 will continue to solicite contributions on these topics, but it will encourage contributions on the following key topic (see details on the COOP'2000 website): THE USE OF THEORIES AND MODELS IN DESIGNING COOPERATIVE SYSTEMS PAPERS SUBMISSIONS Papers presenting original and completed work are invited. Papers may address any of the conference topics, but preferably the key topic. The review process will retain the anonymity of authors and reviewers. Submitted papers will be reviewed by at least three referees. Papers must not exceed 16 pages (authors must consult the COOP'2000 website for full formatting instructions). Accepted papers will be included in a book published by IOS Press. E-mail your paper to: Laurent Karsenty (karsenty@irit.fr) WORKSHOPS PROPOSALS Workshops are designed to offer an informal environment for focused group discussion and learning. Pluridisciplinary approaches are welcome. Workshops will take place the first day of the Conference.Workshop proposals (4 pages max.) should clearly state title, goals and objectives, qualifications and expertise of leaders, intended participants, the maximum number of participants, duration (half-day or full day) and details of any equipment needed. Accepted proposals will be printed in the Conference Supplement. E-mail proposals to: Régine Teulier (teulier@ext.jussieu.fr) and Volker Wulf (volker@cs.uni-bonn.de) POSTERS SUBMISSIONS Posters provide an excellent opportunity for interactivity between the presenter and other participants and enable a discussion of different viewpoints and different disciplines about models of cooperation. Interactive Posters show ongoing work or finished results with a content which is best suited to such an interactive presentation. Interactive Posters will be presented during a special session. Submissions should not exceed 4 pages. Accepted posters will be printed in the Conference Supplement. E-mail proposals to : Françoise Darses (darses@cnam.fr) and Yvonne Waern (yvonne.waern@tema.liu.se) DOCTORIAL COLLOQUIUM Contributions from Ph. D. students in Cooperative System Design are solicited. The contributions will be presented and discussed within a Doctoral Colloquium, a dedicated workshop involving both Ph. D. students and experienced researchers from different areas. Submissions (4 pages max.) should take the form of an extended abstract describing current research in progress. A biographical note should be included. Accepted submissions will be included in the Conference Proceedings Supplement. E-mail proposals to: Camille Rosenthal-Sabroux (sabroux@lamsade.dauphine.fr) and Peter Carstensen (carstensen@tele.dtu.dk) IMPORTANT DATES : October 15, 1999 Deadline for paper submissions October 31, 1999 Deadline for workshop submissions December 10, 1999 Deadline for poster and doctoral colloquium submissions December 15, 1999 Notification of paper and workshop acceptance January 20, 2000 Notification of poster and doctoral colloquium acceptance February 1, 2000 Camera-ready copy of papers February 20, 2000 Camera-ready copy of workshop, doctoral colloquium, and poster May 23-26, 2000 COOP’2000 Conference PROGRAMME COMMITTE Mark S.
