CoIL2000 European Best Practice Workshops and Symposium on Computational Intelligence and Learning 19-23 June 2000, Chios, Greece Take part in the European forum for computational intelligence and learning Learn about different methodologies and example applications Discover how these technologies are being exploited in different sectors and gain a new perspective on their relevance to commerce and industry Exchange experiences and ideas with other practitioners, discuss possible applications and pinpoint future research problems Establish business or research relations and find partners for future collaboration. Support for young scientists Fifteen travel bursaries are available to cover travel expenses to CoIl 2000. To be considered for selection, please send the following information to Sabina Faust : a copy of your CV a brief outline of your future research, indicating how it relates to the topics of CoIL 2000. The CoIL 2000 website is now available: http://www.erudit.de/coil2000 COIL 2000 combines Best Practice Workshops and a Symposium to offer participants a complete perspective on computational intelligence and learning. The event will address issues and applications of evolutionary computing, fuzzy logic, machine learning and neural networks - as well as hybrid systems combining a number of different approaches. It is aimed at practitioners who want to investigate new and better ways of solving their problems; at experienced researchers who require a forum for the exchange of knowledge and ideas; and at individuals who want to keep up to date with recent developments in the field. Workshops CoIL 2000 will open with the European Best Practice Workshops on 19 June. Over three days, experienced researchers will present the main soft computing and machine learning methodologies, together with successful hybrid approaches. Participants will be introduced to a number of example applications and will have an opportunity to complete several practical exercises in the hands-on sessions afterwards. Symposium The Workshops will be immediately followed by a Symposium on Computational Intelligence and Learning (22-23 June). The focus of the Symposium will be on hybrid intelligent systems. Acknowledged experts in the field will present the latest research findings and applications, and address some of the issues that arise from combining different techniques. The event will also include a presentation of the first draft of the CoIL Technological Roadmap. ‘Our aim, with CoIL 2000, is to provide a forum for discussion on current and future hybrid applications,’ explains Sabina Faust, one of the event’s organisers. ‘It will be an opportunity to investigate the different roles that the four CoIL techniques can play as part of the solution process in industrial applications, and to examine the benefits of combining them.’
