Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for the Cultural Heritage and Digital Libraries (Workshop su Intelligenza Artificiale per i Beni Culturali e le Biblioteche Digitali) In concomitanza con il Congresso AI*IA 2001 25 - 28 Settembre 2001, Bari Dipartimento di Informatica, Universitą di Bari http://www.di.uniba.it/~aiia Aim Computer Science and communication network have become tools for scientists of Humanistic Science, too. The new challenge of the computer science actually is to provide to scientists and cultural heritage researchers more effective tools for the data analysis, to make easy the enjoyment and the studying of the cultural heritage. In this contest Artificial Intelligence could represent an effective solution, since it provides to the researchers tools that are avant-garde and, at the same time, tools that satisfy the needs of the inexpert user to investigate and to synthesise information about cultural heritage. Artificial Intelligence, together with the Web could, in this case, provide a solution to the problem of the access and of the massive enjoyment of the cultural heritage. In fact, if from one hand, the presence of the cultural heritage in a digital form on the Web allows the spread of itself on a wide area, from the other hand the tools for the Artificial Intelligence could allow, to users, an enjoyment of the cultural heritage such fitted to personal needs of the user himself. This workshop is one of the initiative of the AI*IA 2001 congress in Bari and it represents an opportunity to analyse the contribution that the Artificial intelligence and the Web could bring in this contest and, also, to directly compare ideas and results coming from academic and research corporations and from companies/bureau that are involved in developing new technological solutions in the field of cultural heritage and of digital libraries. The goal is to create a community of groups to deal with this new challenge. Topics Authors are invited to submit works dealing either with methodological or application solutions pointing out the real possible uses and applications of methods and of tools of the Artificial Intelligence in the field of the artistic and library heritage. Preliminary works underlining interesting researches too are of interest. Particularly, works dealing with the following subjects (this is a not an exhaustive list): · Inter-workability and meta-data (RDF, XML, etc.) in the field of library. · Tutoring Agents to access to digital Museum. · Models and Formal methods for the representation and sharing of knowledge on the Web, dealing with the enjoyment of artistic heritage · Intelligent Interface and access personalisation to the cultural heritage · Mobile Agents for the enjoyment of the cultural heritage · Digital Library. · Models and Architectures of the digital libraries · Multi-medial Information Management and Digitalization (images, movies, sounds, etc.) · Ontology and multi-lingual · Preservation and book repair · Machine Learning and recovery of bibliographic information · Documentary and figurative Archives of the historic and artistic heritage. Invited report due to experts in the field of cultural heritage and of digital libraries are scheduled.
