The aim of the project, funded by the BBSRC's bioinformatics initiative, is to apply machine learning techniques (such as the Support Vector Machine) to the identification of coding regions, gene promoters and other sequence features in genomic sequences, with special emphasis on plant genomes. This is a three year appointment commencing as soon as possible. The Department of Computer Science at Royal Holloway has a leading position in the study of theory and practice of machine learning and in particular the development of the Support Vector learning technique and other kernel-based techniques.
