Description
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), in collaboration with Imperial College London, seeks to employ a postdoctoral researcher to develop statistical methodology to be used in the analysis of clinical medical imaging studies. GSK is currently implementing a variety of clinical MRI studies to evaluate patient populations and drug therapies. One example would be evaluating anti-cancer treatments via dynamic contrast MRI (DC-MRI) where patients are imaged prior to treatment and then several times post treatment in order to evaluate tumor response. Scientific questions include determining statistically significant changes in treatment groups given all available patient data (from the level of voxels to treatment groups) and characterizing sources of heterogeneity. The problem will be cast into a hierarchical Bayesian model, incorporating the spatial and temporal dependencies from all levels of the study along with the current knowledge and understanding of pharmacokinetics. The postdoc will be expected to establish collaborations with researchers both inside GSK and with academic/research institutions in the UK. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Statistics, or relevant quantitative field, with substantial experience in hierarchical Bayesian models applied to spatio-temporal data. Computing skills will be crucial as well as the ability to communicate with scientists and researchers from a variety of disciplines. No previous experience with medical imaging is required. The appointment is anticipated to start in September/October 2004 for a period of 2 years. The postdoc will be based at GlaxoSmithKline Research & Development, Greenford, UK. Starting salary will be in the range £21,368- £31,142 per annum, but may be increased for more experienced candidates. Additional funds for travel and equipment will be provided by GSK. Please contact Brandon Whitcher (brandon.j.whitcher@gsk.com) for more information about this appointment. Closing date: 27 August 2004
