General Information The School of Design, Communication and Information Technology (DCIT) is moving into an exciting new phase by expanding the programs offered in Newcastle, Ourimbah and in other Australian and offshore locations. The strategic importance of these programs is reflected by the Vice-Chancellor's award of special funding to appoint an academic with an outstanding research and teaching record to provide academic leadership and guidance for these programs, in addition to the School's existing suite of programs. The Professor should have an internationally acknowledged research record in applied information technology, experience in the supervision of doctoral students and a record of attracting competitive external funds. They must have commitment to working in offshore delivery in our near Asian markets and the online delivery of courses. DCIT provides courses to over 700 students EFTSU at the undergraduate level in four core degree programs (2 in IT). It offers the coursework programs of Master of Information Technology and Master of Multimedia, as well as research higher degrees. Currently the School has 10 academic staff in Information Technology, and about 15 staff in each of the complementary disciplines of Design and Communication. The School enjoys strong links with industry and government in the region and is seeking to expand its offerings in the international information technology area. Position Description Essential Criteria · PhD or equivalent · Demonstrated research excellence with a strong national and international publication record and success in gaining external research grants · Experience with graduate teaching and curriculum development · Willingness to teach offshore and assist with new initiatives · Demonstrated ability in supervision of doctoral students · Willingness to supervise doctoral students in offshore locations · Proven ability in providing academic, administrative and strategic leadership skills and ability to build a cohesive team · Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, ensuring effective communication with staff and students · Demonstrated knowledge and links with the information technology industry · Demonstrated ability to engage with local and regional communities as well as offshore markets · Willingness to address issues innovatively and with entrepreneurial flair · Willingness to undertake a senior administrative role in the School/Faculty. Desirable Criteria · National recognition in appropriate professional bodies · A broad range of practical IT skills, including experience in industry The Position Classification Standard for Professor, Level E should be viewed before applying. Benefits Academic Level E - $102,661 per annum. Compulsory contributory superannuation is a condition of employment plus generous employer contribution of 17%.
