Description

The position is funded by the "Development of Environmental Diagnostics based on Toxicogenomics and Bio-informatics" project, which kicks off in 2003. The project aims to classify toxic compounds by their effect on mRNA expression levels on two different types of exposed cells. The expression levels are gathered from large scale micro-array experiments. In cooperation with other members of the group, the applicant will be responsible for data analysis (micro-array preprocessing, clustering), design of experiments (for which compounds do we need more information?) and construction of a statistically sound classification system (Bayesian classifier or other techniques, selection of most relevant genes). He or she will also cooperate in more fundamental research on statistical modeling techniques, especially in the area of Bayesian network inference and the incorporation of biological prior information into search and inference algorithms.
