Free University of Bozen/Bolzano Faculty Positions in Computer Science The Free University of Bozen/Bolzano (Italy) will be opening a new department of computer science and invites applications for 3 professorships in Computer Science beginning in September 2001. These positions are equivalent to full or associate professorships (depending on the qualifications of the candidate). The Free University of Bozen/Bolzano will start a new curriculum in computer science both at the Bachelor and Master level. The teaching language is English. The university wants to put a strong emphasis on applied research in Computer Science and strengthen the co-operation with local, national and international companies and institutions. Candidates should have a strong research background and a commitment to teaching excellence. Candidates are expected to teach both introductory and advanced courses in Computer Science. Management skills and a strong record of project funding from companies and other organisations are desirable. All areas of computer science will be considered. Particular preference will be given to candidates pursuing research in software engineering, database/information systems, distributed systems and networks, intelligent systems, multimedia and user interfaces. Salaries and support (including teaching and research assistants) will be highly competitive. The Free University of Bozen/Bolzano was founded on 31st October 1997 as a free, state-recognised university. As a central-European, internationally-oriented educational establishment it acts as an important bridge between the German and Italian cultural and economic spheres. Most of the teaching staff have an international professional background. The university already offers various degrees in economics and business studies as well as in education. With its almost 100,000 German-speaking and Italian-speaking inhabitants, Bozen/Bolzano, as the capital of the province of South Tyrol/Alto Adige, is a multilingual business centre located in a beautiful setting in the Dolomite Alps area.
