Description

PhD Position Eindhoven University of Technology
Process Design by Discovery:
Harvesting Workflow Knowledge from Ad-hoc Executions

The Department of Information and Technology (Eindhoven University of
Technology, Faculty of Technology Management) is seeking applications for a
PhD position in the field of information systems. The research project
Process Design by Discovery: Harvesting Workflow Knowledge from Ad-hoc
Executions is conducted within the research school BETA (Business
Engineering and Technology Application). The goal of the project is to
develop new techniques for process mining, i.e. methods to distill
structured process descriptions from sets of real executions. To achieve
this goal process modeling techniques such as Petri nets are augmented with
techniques from artificial intelligence. The project is linked to several
other research projects conducted at Eindhoven University of Technology and
other universities.

Job requirements
You must have a MSc degree, preferably in a technical science (e.g.,
industrial engineering, computing science, or applied mathematics), and
experience in process modeling techniques (e.g., Petri nets) and/or
artificial intelligence (e.g., machine learning). We are particularly
interested in candidates that can bridge the gap between theory and
practice and enjoy working in a multidisciplinary education and research
team.

Appointment/salary
Appointments are for four years. PhD students will receive a monthly salary
of DFL 2,953 in their first year, which will rise to DFL 4,037 (gross) in
the final (fourth) year. Eindhoven University of Technology has an
excellent package of attractive benefits for employees, a child-care
facility, and a modern sports complex. As part of an equal opportunity
