Description

ITC-irst has established a new research laboratory (eCTRL - Electronic Commerce
and Tourism Research Laboratory, http://ectrl.itc.it) to imagine and build the
next generation of eBusiness applications in tourism. Travel and Tourism is one
of the most promising domain for eCommerce applications and among the major
sectors of economic growth in the coming days. eCTRL is searching for energetic

a general experience in one of the following areas: Software Engineering; Web
and eCommerce Architectures and Frameworks; User Modeling and Interface Design;
Machine Learning and Case Based Reasoning.

Institution
ITC-irst (Centre for scientific and technological research) works in the fields
of information technology and artificial intelligence, microsystems and
micromechanics, physical chemistry of surfaces and interfaces. Research aims at
satisfying concrete needs of innovation in industries and services, with
particular attention to the characteristics of the local economy. ITC-irst
represents a point of reference in the international scientific panorama, and
develops collaborative relationships with other research centers, universities,
public and private laboratories. Details of our research activity can be found
on our main web-site at http://irst.itc.it/

Project
The successful applicants will be involved in the DieToRecs project (EU 5th

the dialogue process as it learns more about the user. The dialogue will be
driven by a tourist destination selection decision making model developed during
an empirical "on field" work. It will support product aggregation and the
further development of mCommerce services (recall events, advise on traffic
condition, etc.). The project will bring innovative results in the area of
Case-Based Recommendation Systems and Tourist Decision Modeling.

Skills required
Successful applicants will have excellent written and verbal communication
skills, and the ability and desire to work as part of a highly skilled
collaborative research team. Applicants must have acquired significant
experience in at least one of the following area:
- DB, Data Modeling and Information Integration
- User Modeling, Interface Design
- Case Based Reasoning and Machine Learning
Desirable expertise would include knowledge of some or all of the following:
JAVA, CORBA, XML (XML Schema, XSL and XSLT, XPath), OO Design and Programming,
AI techniques, Data Base and SQL.

Type of position
The appointments (two positions) will be for a fixed term of two years,
