| Advanced Information Delivery and Presentation
Project overview
Retrieving information is only the first stage in understanding it. This
project aims to examine different ways of improving a user's understanding
of the information found during an information retrieval session. The
initial emphasis is through collaborative filtering, user modelling,
statistical analysis of information, and presentation technologies.
Furthermore, in order to meet the demands of current working practices the
system needs to be designed and built for deployment in a distributed
environment.
Job Specification
We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced software engineer or
exceptional recent graduate. You will be creative, naturally curious and
have a desire to work in the areas of information retrieval and human
computer interaction.
Your work will concentrate on the development of robust distributed systems
for advanced retrieval and user interface technologies for personalised
information delivery.

Requirements
... First degree in a numerate discipline (computer science, physics, maths)
... Higher degree or postgraduate experience in a relevant area ( IR, CSCW, UI
Technologies )
... Excellent programming skills in Java or C++.
... Good initiative, flexible, team player
Desirable
... Ph.D in relevant area.
... Strong object oriented design and implementation skills for distributed,
interactive systems.
... Working knowledge of other key skills areas e.g. XML, JavaScript, EJB,
Perl.
... Experience of working in a commercial / research & development
environment.
