Description

 

CENTRE FOR FORENSIC STATISTICS AND LEGAL REASONING


This is an exciting new collaborative venture involving two
universities, a
forensic science laboratory and four disciplines (law, statistics,
artificial
intelligence and forensic science). The positions are available from
February 1st 2001 and are funded for three years by a Scottish Higher
Education Funding Council Research Development Grant.

The Director's post will be based in the Law Faculty of The University
of
Edinburgh. The three research assistants, will be based in the three
collaborating departments: Mathematics and Statistics (Edinburgh),
Artificial
Intelligence Applications Institute, (Division of Informatics,
Edinburgh) and
the Division of Law at Glasgow Caledonian University.

DIRECTOR

You should have several years' post-doctoral or equivalent experience in
some
or all of the following areas: law, especially socio-legal or
criminological
research; forensic science; artificial intelligence/knowledge
management; and
statistics. You will be in charge of the day-to-day running of the
Centre and
will report to the convenor of the Management Board, Dr. C.G.G. Aitken.

Salary : £29,332 - £32,510 p.a.

RESEARCH FELLOWS

You should have relevant experience, preferably including qualifications
in
one or more of the above areas. In addition you should either have or
be in
the process of attaining, a PhD, or have equivalent qualifications
and/or
experience.

Salary : £16,755 - £25,213 p.a.

experience or interest in: Bayesian statistics; law and the evaluation
of
evidence; modelling of business processes and/or neural networks; and
programming in Java or a similar language.
