eCommerce and Tourism RESEARCH SCIENTISTS Six Posts (ref: ITT7/2000)
ITC-irst is establishing a new group of well motivated people to imagine and build the next generation of eBusiness applications in tourism. Travel and Tourism is one of the most promising domain for eCommerce applications and among the major sectors of economic growth in the coming days. We are searching for energetic researchers with a record of substantial achievement in research or industry and experience in the area of: Software Engineering; Data Modeling; Information Integration; Web and eCommerce Architectures and Frameworks; User Modeling and Interface Design.
Institution ITC-irst (Centre for scientific and technological research) works in the fields of information technology and artificial intelligence, microsystems and micromechanics, physical chemistry of surfaces and interfaces. Research aims at satisfying concrete needs of innovation in industries and services, with particular attention to the characteristics of the local economy. ITC-irst represents a point of reference in the international scientific panorama, and develops collaborative relationships with other research centers, universities, public and private laboratories. Project The new project will focus on the development of methods, techniques and tools for eCommerce applications in tourism. In the first year of activity a recommendation system based on advanced user modelling and data mining techniques will be prototyped in collaboration with industrial partners and a selected customer pool. The project is being funded by a major local bank and will compete for further financing in the EU arena. The project is coordinated by prof. Hannes Werthner, on leave from University of Vienna. Skills required Successful applicants will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability and desire to work as part of a highly skilled collaborative research team. Applicants must have acquired significant experience in at least one of the following area: - DB, Data Modelling and Information Integration (XML and RDF) - Software architectures for Web and eCommerce (CORBA, J2EE, eCO, RosettaNet) - Agents based applications - User Modelling, Interface Design - Data and Web Mining Desirable expertise would include knowledge of some or all of the following: JAVA, CORBA, XML, OO Design and Programming, AI techniques, Data Base and SQL.
Type of position The appointments (six positions) will be for a fixed term of three years, renewable, on the Research staff salary scale: e25,000 - e42,000. Salary and level of appointment will be commensurate with the successful applicants' qualifications, experience and achievements.
