| The ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE APPLICATIONS INSTITUTE is recruiting for a post officially designated as a COMPUTING OFFICER which will require skills in KNOWLEDGE ENGINEERING and/or SOFTWARE MODELLING of ORGANISATIONS to work on a joint project to construct an AIR OPERATIONS ENTERPRISE MODEL
This post will be for a duration of 12 months; the project, and the post, may be extended for a further 6 months subject to further funding.
Description:
The Artificial Intelligence Applications Institute, part of the Division of Informatics within the University of Edinburgh, is a technology transfer organisation that promotes the real-world application of research in artificial intelligence.
The successful applicant will be working full time on the Air Operations Enterprise Modelling project: the aim of this project is to develop a software representation and simulation of the enterprise processes that occur in a JFACC (Joint Forces Air Component Commander)'s organisation during military air operations. AIAI's work packages form part of an overall effort from several organisations, co-ordinated by BBN Technologies. This project comprises part of AIAI's applied research into knowledge management and knowledge engineering. The applicant's work will assist and will be assisted by a senior staff member who will be spending 25% of his time on the project to assist in carrying out the work packages (listed on a separate sheet). The successful applicant should have most or all of the following skills or characteristics:
- Familiarity and experience with process modelling techniques, especially organisational processes; - Familiarity with rule-based and/or object-oriented programming; - Interest or experience in knowledge representation, knowledge management, and knowledge capture; - Interest or experience in presenting short commercial training courses; - Generally motivated, capable of self supervision, and of setting goals and meeting deadlines.
The successful candidate would be expected to undertake a few trips to the USA.
A good honours degree or equivalent in computing (or a similar subject) is essential. A post-graduate qualification in Artificial Intelligence or Computer Science is preferred. Experience equivalent to an honours degree may be accepted if the candidate can demonstrate exceptional abilities on the skills and characteristics listed above. Experience with "expert system" programming tools would be an advantage.
Salary range: The appointment will be made within the AD1 to AD2 salary scales, currently £15,735 to £23,651 (under review). Placing will not normally exceed AD2 point 1 (£18,275)
