organisation that promotes the real-world application of research in artificial
intelligence.

The successful applicant will be working full time on the Air Operations

representation and simulation of the enterprise processes that occur in a JFACC
(Joint Forces Air Component Commander)'s organisation during military air
operations. AIAI's work packages form part of an overall effort from several
organisations, co-ordinated by BBN Technologies. This project comprises part of
AIAI's applied research into knowledge management and knowledge engineering.
The applicant's work will assist and will be assisted by a senior staff member

the work packages (listed on a separate sheet). The successful applicant should
have most or all of the following skills or characteristics:

- Familiarity and experience with process modelling techniques, especially
organisational processes;
- Familiarity with rule-based and/or object-oriented programming;
- Interest or experience in knowledge representation, knowledge management, and
knowledge capture;
- Interest or experience in presenting short commercial training courses;
- Generally motivated, capable of self supervision, and of setting goals and
meeting deadlines.

The successful candidate would be expected to undertake a few trips to the USA.

A good honours degree or equivalent in computing (or a similar subject) is
essential. A post-graduate qualification in Artificial Intelligence or Computer
Science is preferred. Experience equivalent to an honours degree may be
accepted if the candidate can demonstrate exceptional abilities on the skills
and characteristics listed above. Experience with "expert system" programming
tools would be an advantage.

Salary range: The appointment will be made within the AD1 to AD2 salary scales,
currently £15,735 to £23,651 (under review). Placing will not normally exceed
