Post-Doctoral Research Position in
MACHINE LEARNING and DATA MINING
at the
AUSTRIAN RESEARCH INSTITUTE FOR ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, Vienna

The Machine Learning and Data Mining Group of the Austrian Research
Institute for Artificial Intelligence (ÖFAI) is currently involved in
several basic research projects that investigate the fundamentals of
Data Mining and Machine Learning algorithms. With respect to these
projects, our main research goals are:
* analysis of existing data mining algorithms and indentification of
common building blocks and novel interrelations between different
techniques
* re-assembly of such building blocks into original, powerful
algorithms
* integration of known as well as novel algorithms into our own data
mining library (C++)
* the use of meta-learning for (semi-)automatic detection of
combinations of (parts of) algorithms that are suitable for the
data mining task at hand

We expect the candidate to be familiar with recent developments in
Machine Learning and Data Mining. A strong background in the relevant
literature, practical experience with common machine learning
algorithms and data mining tools, and previous research work in these
areas (a completed Ph.D. thesis) are highly desirable. The applicant
should be able to propose and pursue original research goals within
the framework of the project proposals, but also be willing to
integrate his/her work into the joint goals of a small research group.
The salary will be in the area of ATS 390.000,- ( ~ ECU 28.000,-) per
year (before taxes). The position can be filled immediately for a
duration of two years.
